The location

Nordend is its own little cosmos and yet it is central. For example the Oeder Weg leads from the inner city to Nordend. With its special boutiques and urban charm the lively shopping street is known and loved far and wide beyond the city boundaries as a trendy meeting place. Marie is located in Nordend-West, where there are many leisure facilities. For example, on Friedberger Platz, where you can buy fresh fruit and vegetables on the weekly market by day and spend convivial evenings with friends.

The transport connections

Despite the inviting and relaxed prevailing mood in Nordend with its many cyclists, the district's transport connections are top-rate. It is situated between the Alleenring and the Anlagenring. You can reach every destination in Frankfurt quickly from here. And not only by car, but especially by public transport or on foot.

The atmosphere

It could not be greener. With the Günthersburgpark, the Chinese gardens in the Bethmannpark and the main cemetery you will find lovely parks and idyllic green spaces in Nordend. Here, where there is a cider pub right next to a theatre and where one school follows after the next one, the educational and cultural history of the town and the student atmosphere is particularly dominant. This is where the Musterschule and what was once Frankfurt's largest Jewish school, the Philanthropin, are located.



The Marie project

Historic charm, up-to-date comfort

Where St Mary's Hospital stood for decades, attractive owner occupier apartments are now springing up.

In parts of Marie's exterior the original architecture is being recreated, so that the skill of former days continues to blossom. For example, the green yards and the characteristic façades towards Brahmsstraße are rebuilt.

However, the history of Marie has always meant change. Its original clear geometric design, imbued with the quotations and stylistic devices of its time has matured into a highly specialised ensemble of buildings. The return to clarity and urban quality in combination with a glance at the architecture of our times creates a unique place in the heart of an inner-city district.

In its design for the new residential quarter at Nordendplatz the Frankfurt architect's firm of Magnus Kaminiarz & Cie. interprets this historical significance through an exciting dialogue of old and new, in the midst of which carefully devised landscaped spaces and gardens have once more come alive.

Viewing the history of the architecture of the 1910's with our contemporary understanding opens up to us a creative wealth, which could not have emerged without consideration of our cultural heritage.
